• Parade of Lights

The city of Woodstock, Georgia, where Sharp Residential’s beautiful Lakestone subdivision is located, hosted a warm holiday spirit in frosty airs Saturday when Woodstock presented the annual holiday “Parade of Lights”.   The colorful parade day events began at the old WalMart/Furniture Express on Hwy 92 moved north on Main Street through the Olde Town merchant district to Woodstock Elementary School.  Added to this years events, the Towne Lake Players drummed up a well received rendition of the “Little Drummer Boy”, even offering a special, free opening performance in the mid afternoon at the Woodstock Community Church.  The Sequoyah High School Women’s Choral Group sang and danced at the Grand Stand in front of RightWing Tavern in the late afternoon.  Festivities included lots of excellent food from local vendors.  All of this local talent led one along the parade path to the downtown Woodstock City Park where there was a fabulous turnout for sit downs with Santa with the Woodstock Middle School Choral performing nearby.  The Woodstock Middle School Chorus has been invited to sing at Carnegie Hall and took donations to help offset the expense! Then, there was the hush of anticipation followed by cheers of delight with the lighting of Woodstock’s Christmas tree for 2009.

Woodstock’s Mayor Donnie Henriques awarded the best holiday

parade float and the 2009 winner of Preservation Woodstock’s Barbara G

Ingram Citizen on the Year Award Winner,  Elaine Hubbard, acted as

Grand Marshall of the parade. Mrs. Hubbard was presented the award in

recognition of her contributions to the historic preservation in Woodstock.

A particularly important focus of the day’s events is the collection of canned goods for local food pantries.  Toys were donated for the Woodstock Jaycee’s Christmas Assistance Program to benefit the less fortunate families of Cherokee County.
